Well~ i just called WD and they told me that the drive is faulty (through conversation on phone) and asked me to RMA (Return Material Authorization)for a new drive. Seriously , its always not the problem of changing a new drive.

Maybe , I'm in a bad luck that why the drive failed on me. Most of my friends seem to have no problem with WD external Harddisk. There might be a major updates on my works soon.... *sob sob.

I hate you WD~!! haaa

I brought a 1TB external "Western Digital My book" to backup stuffs 2-3months ago. Now the drive can't seem to be detected by my computer. Everything is inside the drive and i don't have another copy of backup for that which is sux.
I need a backup and in the end i got a backfire. WTF seriously~ heee

I had a problem with my wd external hdd too....i'm currently doing a data recovery on it to recover my files. Usually works, just most data recovery programs costs money. But i found a free one for mac called 'testdisk' don't know how good it is yet.. it's taking forever to scan my drive...it's scanning as we speak at 5% of a 320gb partitioned drive.

At least , your computer still recognize the drive. My computer can't even detect it...

no it doesn't recognise it. It doesn't even show up. I have to go terminal and type in codes to make sure it's still there....

I've heard from a few people that it may be better to buy smaller drives and daisy-chain them together, but that was also a few years ago. I also have issues with computers seeing my WD drive sometimes but some of the time it has to do with the computer, and the others I think my cord may just be on its way out. Or some connector

are you using the original cable that came with the external disk? i had a similar problem, but in my case, it was caused by using an ordinary usb cable instead of the original. im using a WD Passport 320 GB, maybe you should look this one up, i favor this because it doesn't need a direct power connection, just the usb :)

Sometimes if it is a large drive, you need to just let it sit for like half an hour or more and it might start up again...Computer sometimes has trouble reading the large amount of data.

Also, don't keep it plugged in during boot up. Wait until the computer reboots fully, then put in the USB...

D: That can't be fun to go through though, I had similar experiences before. I have not had issues with my WD just yet though.
